Red-Bellied Snake (Storeria occipitomaculata)

I ran into this baby snake one September afternoon in the Barnyard Garden. They are common in woodland areas all around Massachusetts (except apparently not on Nantucket, where they are decidedly absent). They are typically nocturnal hunters of invertebrates including, snails, slugs, and earthworms. Grateful for their service!
