Soil Blocking Basics Workshop
Spring 2026
Saturday April 18, 2026 at 1:00 pm
To ensure ample workspace and personalized instruction, each workshop is limited to a small working group so early registration is encouraged.
Workshop Description
Join us for a 2-hour, hands-on workshop focused on the practical skill of soil blocking: a natural, plastic-free approach to starting seeds. Soil blocking is a technique that can be used on every level from container gardening to backyard growers, all the way to small scale farmers.
You'll learn how to create compressed, freestanding soil blocks and explore the environmental and plant health benefits of this method over traditional seed trays. Then we will walk through the steps of basic soil block care, “potting up” when necessary, and finally transplanting.
We’ll also cover general seed-starting principles and practices , including how to care for seedlings at home using natural amendments and growth boosters, as well as tips for optimal lighting and heating setups. Spring workshop will focus on plants that are appropriate for spring planting.
All experience levels from beginning gardeners to experienced growers are welcome!
